After the just concluded #END SARS series which received a lot of acceptance and accolades from you all. I bring to your table another mouth-watering delicacy on the upcoming primaries about to occur in the two biggest political parties in the country I.e APC and PDP. So stay tuned to my blog for all the juicy updatesπ€π€
Our main focus for this post and for the next few posts will be on the ALL PROGRESSIVE CONGRESS PARTY popularly known as APC. So let us dwell into the history of this great party of this fourth Republic ( 1999- till date)
Formed in February 2013, the party is the result of a merger of Nigeria's three biggest opposition parties – the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the new PDP - a faction of then ruling People's Democratic Party. The resolution was signed by Tom Ikimi, who represented the ACN; Senator Annie Okonkwo on behalf of the APGA; Ibrahim Shekarau, the Chairman of ANPP's Merger Committee; and Garba Shehu, the Chairman of CPC's Merger Committee. The party came to power following the victory of party candidate Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election.
Ever since the party's historic win from PDP in 2015, the then dominant party in Nigerian politics, the party has dominated Nigerian politics. The party won the presidential elections of 2015 and 2019 with Muhammadu Buhari as its flag bearer. The party also won 60 out of the 109 senate seats in 2015 and 63 out of 109 senate seats in 2019. The party also won 212 seats out of the 360 House of representative seats in 2015 and 212 seats out of the 360 House of representative seats in 2019. The party won the gubernatourial elections in 18 out of the 28 states where it was conducted in 2015 and also won gubernatorial elections in 22 out of the 36 states but is left with 20 states after a seat change in the states of Sokoto and Benue.
Looking at the party's remarkable victories in the previous elections, it is no doubt that the selection criteria for the candidate in the party's primariy elections( this is the term given to the election conducted within the party) would be rigid, over the years this has been so ranging from the overview of the amount spent by various aspirants for the posts most notable of all and our main focus the presidential aspirants.
When asked why this was so, a few stakeholders in the party expressed their views. Below are their replies
A few people might find their reasons justifiable and tenable but I feel their goal is just to secretly inculcate a plutocratic system in place. A plutocratic system or plutocracy can be defined as a form of government by the rich, this is a form of oligarchy ( a government by the few for the benefit of the few). I said secretly but pardon my mistake, it is no longer a secret to us that this country is being ruled by rich people. This is not surprising as if within the party, it is rich people who have access to contest for the flag bearer position, what different person who rule the country?. The answer is THE RICH. Or what are your opinions, air them out in the comment section. With that being said, we are at the end of today's post, stay tuned to my blog for the next post where we examine two key presidential aspirants in APC in a title tagged APC'S PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANTS: THE JUDAS WHO BETRAYED HIS MESSIAH AND THE ICONIC POWER MAN.
